A fascinating development has occurred between the “Creation-Evolution Debate”, according to the announcement on Ken Ham’s Facebook page, Ham said:
“I will be debating the well-known Bill Nye The Science Guy!”
As many have heard (and seen) Bill Nye was interviewed in a video from Big Think’s YouTube channel about evolution, its scientific pro’s, and the “detrimental” effect of creationism. In the video Nye said:
“And I say to the grownups, if you want to deny evolution and live in your world, in your world that’s completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that’s fine, but don’t make your kids do it because we need them. We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future. We need people who can—we need engineers that can build stuff, solve problems.”
This video went viral. It’s now up to almost 6 million views total, as many Christians and atheists alike were interested in hearing what was said. As much as I’d love to talk about the things wrong with some of his assertions, namely that it’s not appropriate to teach kids about creation, and the “absolute” nature of his belief in macro evolution, but that’s not the reason I’m posting.
According to the Washington Post:
“Ken Ham wrote on his Facebook page Thursday that he will square off Feb. 4 with Nye, the former host of a popular science TV show for youths. The event is likely to attract plenty of attention in scientific and faith circles, as Nye is a high-profile advocate of science education and Ham is a respected leader among Christians who believe the Bible’s origin story is a factual account of the Earth’s beginnings.”
According to Answers In Genesis the event cost will be $25 per person, tickets becoming available Monday, January 6th. The event begins on Feb 4th at 7pm and proceeds until 9:30pm at the Creation Museum. (more info at www.answeringenesis.org)
My thoughts? Should be really cool. I’m the debating type and I love hearing about things like this, I’m interested to hear both arguments for their side, and hope we all learn something! But through it all, we must “speak the truth in love” (Eph 4:15).
Anyways, just thought I’d let you all know about this event! I’m super excited about getting a copy of it to watch, I’ll make sure to share my thoughts on it in the future! Check out the Bill Nye Video (click here) and let me know what you think!
Have a great week! Thanks for reading!
